Ford statement of Carmel synagogue vandalism arrest

INDIANAPOLIS – Candidate for Indiana State Senate JD Ford issued the following statement after law enforcement officials announced the arrest of suspects in the anti-Semitic vandalizing of a Carmel synagogue.

“I commend U.S. Attorney Josh Minkler, Special Agent Greg Massa with the FBI, Carmel Chief of Police Jim Barlow and all law enforcement officials involved for moving swiftly to bring responsible parties to account for this hateful act. To heal, as a community, we must move forward together. Today, my thoughts are with the congregants of Shaarey Tefilla. At the Statehouse, it’s time to send a clear signal there’s no room for this type of hatred in our state and I’ll join Governor Eric Holcomb and members of both parties to pass a law outlawing hate crimes.”

After the attacks against the Jewish community in Carmel, Sen. Taylor and JD Ford issue joint statement in support of hate crimes legislation
INDIANAPOLIS, IN – After the attacks against the Congregation Shaarey Tefilla this weekend, State Senator Greg Taylor, author of Indiana’s hate crimes bill, and State Senate candidate JD Ford, issued a joint statement. Together, they called on State Senator Mike Delph, who has refused to support a hate crimes bill year after year, to declare his support for the legislation.  Senator Taylor also noted that many communities have been forced to deal with hateful actions over the years, and further called on Delph to stand up for the people of Senate District 29.
“This past weekend, a blatant act of hate was committed against the Congregation Shaarey Tefilla and against the people of Carmel. We join those who have condemned this act and know that this does not reflect the beliefs of this community. However, talk is cheap, and we believe it is time for action - this heinous incident illustrates exactly why we must pass a hate crimes bill in Indiana.
While Indiana remains one of five states in our country still without a hate crimes law, Mike Delph offers only his words in response. It is past time that we ensure that our laws protect all Hoosiers and reflect true Hoosier values. We are committed to working for a hate crimes bill, and we call on Mike Delph to put action behind his talk and join us.
We stand with the people of Congregation Shaarey Tefilla and with all Hoosiers who deserve full protection under our laws.”

Carmel synagogue vandalized with Nazi graffiti

Please read J.D.'s statement:

This morning, I awoke to the news of a local synagogue (Congregation Shaarey Tefilla) being vandalized with Nazi graffiti. This is absolutely disgusting and I cannot believe it's right here in our backyard.

I am standing shoulder-to-shoulder in denouncing this hateful and hurtful displays of anti-semitism. Simply put, hate has no place in our great State. Let's lift up the congregants today.

The sad reality to this awful situation is that we think incidents like this do not happen here. They do. This is proof of it. I say that because we must pass hate crimes legislation in the 2019 General Assembly. Indiana remains 1 of 5 states with no law on the books. For years, our legislators have been "trying" to pass this law but they continue to fail us. My opponent, Senator Mike Delph, opposes this measure. I do not. I believe a hate crimes bill is necessary especially now given the amount of hateful incidents our Country and our State is seeing.

We are living in a world where racism, intolerance, bigotry, and etc. is now our normal. It doesn't have to be so. I believe in a world where are our differences makes us stronger.
Please. Do what you can. Work for candidates. Open your wallets. Make phone calls. Go door-to-door. Write postcards. All of these actions are crucial to people like me defeating someone like Senator Delph this November.

Lastly, please vote on 11/6/18. Too much going on to not vote this November.

Indiana Stonewall Democrats Endorse J.D. Ford for State Senate

On Wednesday, November 8th the Indiana Stonewall Democrats Executive Board voted unanimously to endorse JD Ford for Indiana Senate District 29. In their first endorsement of the 2018 Election cycle, the ISD Board has chosen to recognize a pillar of the LGBTQ+ community and seasoned professional who understands the importance of communicating with and delivering results for voters. Mr. Ford would be the first openly LGBTQ+ representative ever elected to the Indiana General Assembly.

“Hoosier Democrats are really excited about JD’s candidacy because we know that he will be a fierce advocate for the LGBTQ+ community and concentrate on policies that will make life better for all Hoosiers” said Josh Peters, President of Indiana Stonewall Democrats.

If elected to the Indiana Senate, JD Ford will be committed to ensuring civil rights protections for LGBTQ+ Hoosiers, advocating for bias-motivated crimes legislation, bringing sanity to the medical marijuana conversation, and calling for nonpartisan redistricting reform.  Over the next year, the Indiana Stonewall Democrats will get to work canvassing, phone banking, and fundraising for JD Ford to ensure that we send him to the Indiana Statehouse.
